Thompson Mahogany Company has been a pioneer in responsible forestry. Since the 1980s, Thompson's presdent, Don Thompson, has been actively involved in the scientific and trade issues underlying preservation of tropical rainforests.

Thompson Mahogany Company is also an avid supporter of C.U.R.E.
(Conservation, Utilization, Reforestation, Education), one of IWPA's effort in forest conservation
(see IWPA & The Smithsonian Institute's Tropical Forestry Workshop).
Thompson is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC),
an international organization that certifies woods that are derived from well-managed forests
using practices that respect the regional peoples, wildlife, and natural resources.
