Thompson Mahogany Company has been a pioneer in responsible forestry. Since the 1980s, Thompson's presdent, Don Thompson, has been actively involved in the scientific and trade issues underlying preservation of tropical rainforests.

  • Don Thompson has been a featured speaker and panelist at management of tropical forests at many national and international scientific conferences. A partial list:

  • Thompson Mahogany Company has sponsored research at Princeton University on biological/ecological issues of mahogany regeneration
  • Don Thompson was instrumental in the establishment of the "Johnny Mahoganyseed" program to reforest areas in Bolivia

Thompson Mahogany Company is also an avid supporter of C.U.R.E. (Conservation, Utilization, Reforestation, Education), one of IWPA's effort in forest conservation (see IWPA & The Smithsonian Institute's Tropical Forestry Workshop).

Thompson is certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international organization that certifies woods that are derived from well-managed forests using practices that respect the regional peoples, wildlife, and natural resources.
