About Thompson Mahogany Company
Quality since 1843

In 1843, Lewis Thompson opened a small business in Philadelphia to import mahogany lumber from Brazil and Mexico. Today Thompson Mahogany Company is still located in Philadelphia and is one of the nation's preeminent suppliers of quality tropical hardwoods from Central and South America, Africa, and Australia. Thompson is a direct importer of tropical hardwood lumber, decking, and flooring, which are used in US-manufactured furniture and goods, flooring in new and existing homes, and outdoor decks and boardwalks for residential, industrial, commercial, and government buildings.

Thompson ships into the ports of Philadelphia and Camden and ships to wholesalers, distributors and manufacturers throughout the United States and Canada. Thompson Mahogany Company is one of the nation's preeminent suppliers of tropical words, for fine furniture, musical instruments, doors, outdoor decks, boardwalks, and residential and commercial wood floors.

Products

Thompson has three major product lines: lumber, flooring, and decking.

Lumber: we import and stock more than 25 species of hardwood lumber from around the world.

Decking: we import and stock ipe and massaranduba (Brazilian redwood) decking boards and accessories like railings, balasters, and subrails, and it mills special profiles for custom work.

Flooring: we import and stock solid wood flooring, both unfinished and prefinished, in Brazilian cherry (jatoba), Santos mahogany, Brazilian walnut (ipe), Southern chestnut (cumaru), and Tigerwood.

Until 1989, Thompson's business was primarily focussed on imported lumber. However, since then, we have expanded into imported flooring and on the rapidly-growing outdoor decking market. Today lumber constitutes about half the business, and flooring and outdoor decking make up the balance.

Thompson prides itself on the high quality standards we set for ourselves and the personal relationship with both our customers and our suppliers, We have always worked closely with suppliers to obtain the finest woods available for our customers.
